Kim Seung-hee (poet)

Kim Seung- hee ( born March 1, 1952 in Gwangju ) is a South Korean writer and poet.

Life

Kim Seung- hee was born on March 1, 1952 in Gwangju. She completed her schooling from the Chonnam Girls' High School and received her degree in English literature and eventually her PhD in Korean literature at Sogang University. In 1973, she officially had her literary debut when her poem The water in the picture ( 그림 속의 물 ) in the journal Kyŏnghyang Sinmun ( 경향 신문 ) was published.

Her early works are characterized by their tendency to formalism from, or ' art for art's sake ' and by the application of hot and uninhibited language. Its later poetry, however, evolved to the exploration of everyday reality and the questions to eternal existence in freedom.
