Kinder Scout from north-west

Kinder Scout is a mountain and a plateau in the Peak District and 636 meters at its highest point and the highest mountain in Derbyshire and throughout the East Midlands in England.

The more than 600 meters high, covered by heath and moorland plateau high with about 2.5 kilometers stretch in length and width falls steeply on all sides off, some with rock walls. Here, form small waterfalls, the most significant of the "Children Downfall" with about 30 meters in height. Since the amount of water cascading streams is not very large, the waterfalls can be completely blown away in strong winds. In winter, the children Downfall is used for ice climbing.

On trails of Lying west of Edale Hayfield or in the southeast the plateau can be achieved. At its western edge of the Pennine Way, a 430 km long distance hiking trail runs from Edale according to Kirk Yetholm in Scotland. Located directly between Manchester and Sheffield, the mountain is a popular hiking destination.

The high moors and heathlands are threatened by overgrazing by sheep and because of the large number of walkers by erosion. In a radius of about 150 meters around the highest point of the floor is already highly degraded.

On April 24, 1932 the mountain the scene of a protest movement by hikers called for free access on paths and became known as "mass trespass of Kinder Scout ." It rose about 400 hikers on the plateau, which was private property, so that it came on the way back to arrests for breach of the peace. This led years later to adoption of laws that led the establishment of national parks and the opening of the landscape to the public. 1951, the Peak District National Park was the first national park in England.
