King Stitt

King Stitt, whose real name is Winston Spark ( born September 17, 1940 in Kingston, † January 31, 2012 ibid ) was a Jamaican musician.

He began his musical career in Education in the 1950s as a DJ at Coxsone Dodd's Downbeat Sound System. His first record releases were then produced by Clancy Eccles and led to early successes in Jamaica and the UK. Later he worked more frequently with Dodd in his Studio One.

Due to a deformation of his face King Stitt also called himself even The Ugly One, referring to the English title of the Westerns of Sergio Leone Bad and the Ugly.

He fell ill after returning from a tour in Brazil in October 2011 and spent several months in hospital in Kingston. He died on 31 January 2012 at the age of 71, shortly after his release from the hospital.
