Kingfish (Band)

Kingfish was a West Coast band in the early seventies. It was founded in 1973 by Matthew Kelly, Chris Herold, former New Riders of the Purple Sage Dave Torbert, Robbie Hoddinott and Mick Ward. They were initially a local band that could be heard at concerts around San Francisco. However, already in late 1973 Ward died in a car accident. In 1974, instead, Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead. Shortly thereafter, Kingfish got a record deal.

1976 the debut album Kingfish, which offered loose Country and West Coast sounds. The band continued to play live a lot, in May 1977, in Hollywood the live album Live'n'Kickin ' added. The band played, among other things cover of Rufus Thomas, Chuck Berry and Little Walter.

Soon after, Weir returned to the Grateful Dead, also Hoddinott and Herold left the band again. As a replacement came Joe English, Bob Hogins and Michael O'Neill. With this lineup for the Country album recorded in 1978 Trident. 1979 Kingfish separated again.

In 1995, the double album was released In Concert, which includes an appearance in New York City in 1976. 1999 actually appeared a new studio album Kingfish, says Sundown on the Forest.
