Kintsvisi Monastery

The Qinzwissi Monastery (Georgian ყინწვისის მონასტერი; qɪnt͡svɪsɪs mɔnɑstɛrɪ ) is a Georgian Orthodox medieval monastery in the Georgian region of Inner Kartli, in the municipality Kareli. It is located around 10 kilometers from the village of the same name Qinzwissi. Under the building of the monastery there is a large dome of St. Nicholas church ( the main church), which is almost intact still available today. It dates from the 13th century.

The dome Church of Qinzwissi similar to the main church of the Georgian monastery Timotessubani and is built of brick. The plan of the church has a floor plan with cross -in- square and an apse in the east side. The church has a high dome with twelve windows. The church has three entrances on the northern, western and southern side. The walls are decorated in the interior with fresco painting. Very well known is the fresco representation of the so -called " Qinzwissier Angel" (Georgian ყინწყვისის ანგელოზი ). There are also depictions of King Giorgi III. , Queen Tamar and her son Giorgi IV Lasha on the northern wall.

In the complex of the monastery are also the ruins of St. Mary's Church from the 13th century, still a medieval church and other smaller klosterliche building.
