Kitsos Tzavelas

Kitsos Tzavelas (Albanian: Kiço Xhavella; Greek: Κίτσος Τζαβέλας; * 1800 Souli ( Epirus ), † March 21, 1855 in Athens ) was a suliotischer politicians in Greece, Prime Minister 1847/1848 and General.

Independence fighters

The father and the grandfather of Tzavelas, photos and Lambros Tzavelas already fought the Turkish rule in the person of the governor of Epirus, Ali Pasha Tepelenë. He spent his youth later on Corfu and played an increasingly important role in the Greek revolution. He excelled alongside Georgios Karaiskakis from particularly at the siege of Missolonghi. At this time his rivalry began to Markos Botzaris, which fell in 1823. After the arrival of Ioannis Kapodistrias in Greece, he was responsible for the liberation of large parts of central Greece.

Independence and climb to the Prime Minister

After the independence of Greece on 15 April 1827 he was a supporter of Kapodistrias and eventually the leader of the Russian Party ( Ρωσικό Κóμμα ), the I in the Greek Parliament during the reign of King Otto took a conservative and orthodox political stance.

After planning the revolt against King Otto I. In 1834 he was arrested along with other leaders of the Russian party on the instructions of Prime Minister Joseph Ludwig Graf von Armansperg. After solidification of the power of the king Tzavelas was released from prison and later even aide- de-camp of the king.

1844 he was appointed Minister of War. Of 17 September 1847 to 19 March 1848, he finally was Prime Minister.
