The Kitzsteinhorn is a mountain in the municipality of Kaprun in the Austrian province of Salzburg. The Kitzsteinhorn is part of the located in the Hohe Tauern Glocknergruppe and reaches a height of 3203 m above sea level. A.

With the glacier of Kitzsteinhorn Kaprun the summit from the valley station in 911 m height can be achieved up to an altitude of 3029 m by cable car. This is happening to this day the highest cable car pylon in the world. This is 113.6 meters high and has a diameter of 2.20 m columns.

On the station roof, in 3029 m, there is a viewing platform. From the top station starting leads, among other things through the 362 meter long Gluckauf - Hanna tunnel walk to the top entry point to the ski area. The tunnel was opened in 1970.

History

The first ascent of the Kitzsteinhorn was made in 1828 by Johann Entacher. From the cable car mountain station of the summit can easily be climbed, partly along safety chains.

When fire disaster Kaprun glacier funicular 2 on November 11, 2000 155 people were killed.
