Glockner Group

The Glockner group is a subgroup of the Austrian Central Alps in the Eastern Alps and is located in the central part of the Hohe Tauern in the course of the Alps.

The Glockner Group is located in Austria in the federal states of Salzburg, Tyrol and Carinthia. On the top of Eiskögele ( 3436 m above sea level. A. ) encounter the three states together.

The highest peak in the Glockner group, while the highest peak in Austria, the Grossglockner ( 3798 m above sea level. A. ), which is the mountain range its name. Major parts of the Glockner group belong to the core zone of the National Park Hohe Tauern. Can also be found in the Glockner group is the Pasterze, the largest glacier in Austria.

The boundaries of the Glockner group are defined as follows: Salzach from Uttendorf to Rauris; Rauris valley to Wörth; Seidlwinkltal; Hochtor ( Grossglockner High Alpine Road); Tauernbach; Möll to confluence moss creek; Moss creek; Peischlachtörl; Peischlachbach; Kals am Grossglockner; Kals Bach; Villages Valley; Strand Lake; Kals Tauern; Weisssee; Weissbach; Grünsee; Enzinger ground; Stubachtal; Uttendorf.

Together with the Ankogelgroup, the Goldberg Group, the Schober Group, the Kreuzeckgruppe, the Granatspitzgruppe, the Venediger Villgratner the mountains and the Rieserfernergruppe forms the Glocknergruppe the large group of the Hohe Tauern.

Tourism

The area is heavily developed: The Grossglockner High Alpine Road (and their trip to the Franz- Josef - height), the road from Uttendorf to Enzingerboden, bus transfers to the reservoirs in Kaprun and the toll road from Kals am Grossglockner to Lucknerhaus allow, with by car and public transport to venture far into the mountains. A variety of alpine huts offers hikers and climbers accommodation:

Energy

The energy industry in Austria and ÖBB use the water of the Glockner group for power generation at the sites Kaprun, Franz- Josef - height ( dam Margaritze ) and Enzingerboden ( Weisssee Tauernmoossee ).
