Klaas-Erik Zwering

Klaas -Erik Zwering (born 19 May 1981 in Eindhoven ) is a former Dutch swimmer. From the late 1990s, he was one of the best swimmers in his country.

Zwering trained in swimming performance center of the PSV Eindhoven Jacco Verhaeren below. Initially, his work focused on the back distances. He celebrated his first international success in 1999 at the Junior European Championships in Moscow, when he won the bronze in the 100m backstroke. In the same year he won at the European Swimming Championships in Istanbul with Dutch 4 × 100 m medley relay title.

A year later, he made his debut in Sydney at the Olympic Games, but did not in his best discipline 200m backstroke on the tenth square. After this disappointing result, he moved to focus more on the freestyle distances. The change paid off. With the World Swimming Championships in Fukuoka in 2001 he won the silver medal as a member of the Dutch 4 × 100 m freestyle relay. Finally, he won at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens together with Johan Kenkhuis, Mitja Zastrow and Pieter van den Hoogenband silver medal in the 4 × 100 m.

After the Games of Athens Zwering resigned from active competitive sports and focused on his management studies.
