Klaas Smit

Klaas Smit ( born November 11, 1930 in Volendam, Edam † 20 February 2008 ) was a Dutch football player.

Smit played in his career for FC Volendam, Alkmaar'54 and DWS Amsterdam. The left inside forward was the first scorer in professional football in the Netherlands; on 14 August 1954, he scored the goal for 1-0 in Alkmaar of Alkmaar'54 against Sport Club Venlo in the first game of the newly established professional league of NBVB. He scored in a 3-0 win with the Alkmaar another goal; the third goal steered Henk van der Sluis at. Overall Smit came in his 225 league matches on 56 goals, including 44 in 100 games for Alkmaar and 12 in 125 games for DWS.
