Klaus Brockhoff

Klaus Brockhoff ( born October 16, 1939 in Koblenz ) is a German economist.

Life

Klaus Brockhoff studied economics at the University of Bonn. After graduating in 1962 he was a research assistant at the chair of Horst Albach. In 1965 he received his doctorate with a thesis on corporate growth and product line changes. A year later, he completed his degree as Diplom- Kaufmann at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität in Münster. From 1967 to 1968 he was a post-doctoral fellowship from the German Research Foundation as a Visiting Scholar at the University of California, Berkeley. After his habilitation with a work on R & D project and program planning, also at the University of Bonn, he was first an employee of the research and consulting institute Battelle, where he was head of a larger unit after a short time. In 1970 he was appointed to a Chair of Business Administration at the Christian -Albrechts -University of Kiel and worked there until 1999, almost 30 years. First, he was responsible for the General Business Administration in Kiel. After the introduction of the degree program in Business Administration in 1978 and creation of functionally specialized departments, he became a professor of marketing industry, circa 1989 to change to the newly created Chair of Technology and Innovation Management, the first of its kind in Germany. From 1999 to 2004 he was rector of the Graduate School of Management ( WHU ) - Otto Beisheim School in Vallendar. Since his retirement he acts there as an honorary professor.

Work

Klaus Brockhoff is known not only an important researchers, but also for his contributions to science management. From 1981-1983 he was Chairman of the Commission in the Marketing Association of University Professors of Management. From 1989-1991 he served as Chairman of the Association. Because of its many science policy activities he was from 1991-1994 a member of the Science Council. From 1997 to 2007 he was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Volkswagen Foundation and head of wealth advisory board. He is currently Vice Chairman of the WHU Foundation and member of the Board of Trustees of ash Commichau Schumann Foundation. In addition, he was and is a member of various supervisory boards, such as Metro AG, or Steuler Holding GmbH.

Brockhoff doctorate on 60 students and produced five academic students, each professorships at German universities hold: Helmut Schmale at the University of Passau ( † 2002), Sönke Albers ( University of Kiel), Ursula Weisenfeld -Schenk (University of Lüneburg), Holger Ernst ( WHU ), and Thorsten Teichert (University of Hamburg).

Honors

1997 Brockhoff was elected to the Berlin- Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and in 2000 the European Academy of Sciences and Arts. It was followed by the Academy of Technical Sciences Acatech.

His scientific achievements were finally recognized by an honorary doctorate by the University of Bern in 2003. In 2009 he was awarded in the United States as a leader in Technology Management.
