Klaus Eberhard (skier)

Klaus Eberhard ( born April 4, 1956 in Baden, Lower Austria ) is a former Austrian alpine skier. The downhill specialist launched from 1975 to 1978 in the Ski World Cup, and reached this podium. Due to several injuries, he had to give up competitive sports at the age of 24 years.

Career

Eberhard attended the Skihauptschule in Lilienfeld and then the Skigymnasium in Stams. After a few good results in the European Cup departure specialist denied in January 1975 on the Patscherkofel in Innsbruck his first World Cup race. Two months later he reached ninth place in Val Gardena first time the points.

On 20 December 1975, the Lower Austrian reached surprising second place in the departure of Schladming. With further good results, including a fourth place in Morzine, he finished sixth in the downhill World Cup. At the Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck in 1976, he was affected by a slight injury he suffered last downhill training and only reached 19th place also during the entire 1976/77 season had Eberhard struggling with injuries. He therefore came only a few World Cup inserts and never reached the points. In the European Cup he won the downhill of San Sicario. In the winter of 1977/78 he came in the World Cup back to good results. Best result of the season was the fourth place in Cortina d' Ampezzo. So he came into the team for the 1978 World Cup in Garmisch -Partenkirchen, arrived there, however, despite good training services not used.

At the beginning of the 1978/79 season Eberhard suffered another serious injury, which is why he could not participate in any race throughout the winter. The next year, he attempted a comeback, but again suffered a severe injury that eventually forced him to end his career. Eberhard was later active in motorsport and won the 2004 overall standings of the Porsche Alpine Cup.
