Life and work

Klaus Emmerich, son of Austrian parents graduated, 1948 in Spittal an der Drau and studied first in Vienna and Bonn English, then economics. As early as 1947 he began his journalistic work as a business correspondent for various newspapers like the Süddeutsche Zeitung, the business publishing and others. In 1956 he moved to Germany as a press correspondent, where he remained until 1969. At the same time he was at Deutsche Welle in Bonn and came to the WDR in Cologne.

In 1969 he came to the ORF, where he was known as a correspondent in Bonn, Washington and Brussels in Austria to a wide audience. Also known as editor of ORF 2 he worked. Since 1992 he is a freelance journalist and publicist.

Criticism learned Emmerich, after he had uttered as a guest in a TV show of the ORF and in a subsequent newspaper interview about Barack Obama. Emmerich said the Obama victory, among other things: "I do not want to let direct from a black in the western world me. If you say this is a racist remark: right, no question about that. ". He also insinuated a parallel between Obama's campaign leadership and the propaganda of the Nazis. Emmerich said in the interview also concerned that he sees in Obama's election " an extremely worrying development ", such as " the blacks are not as far in their political and civilizational development " were. As a consequence, was demanded by green politicians, Emmerich to not continue to employ in the future as a commentator.

After the remarks in Austria apparently met with little protest, put the American ambassador in Vienna, David F. Girard- diCarlo, 16 November 2008 an official note of protest before, in which the utterances Emmerichs as an affront to Obama and all the people of the United States are convicted and one on the previous utterances beyond condemnation of the statements required by ORF and politics.
