The Small Deister is a ridge (up to 345.7 m above sea level. NN ) of the Calenberger highlands and forms together with the Nesselberg and the Osterwald a group of three adjacent mountain ranges in the northern part of the linen highlands. It lies between Springe and Eldagsen in the Region of Hannover in Lower Saxony, Germany.

Geography

The Small Deister is directly south of Jump or immediately north of the nettle mountain. For the derivation of the water of the river Haller contributes.

Due to the flat Talpass the Deisterpforte the highway runs 217 from Hannover to Hameln. In the southeast of the small Deister is through the valley, where the country road 422 runs from Eldagsen after Coppenbruegge and the Gehlen stream flows, separated from the northern foothills of the Easter Forest.

On the saddle between the Kleiner Deister and Nesselberg and thus between the wolf heads in the northeast and the Grasberg in the southwest once stood the old wolf beech; there also arises from the Black Brook, a tributary of the Gehlen Bach. Both mountain ranges are located between the towns of Jump - old Hagen, the nucleus of Springe, Eldagsen and Coppenbruegge - Brünnighausen.

Through the Small Deister and the neighboring Nesselberg runs from north to south part of the " Roswithawegs ", a European long-distance hiking trail. The Small Deister is almost completely remodels with a 16.3 km long and 2 m high sandstone wall that extends south over the crest of the nettle mountain. In this complex there is the Saupark Jump - the main attraction of the ridge with numerous wildlife species.

Geology

The Small Deister has a hercynisch pronounced strike direction. It forms the north-eastern wing of a large saddle structure. The strata of the Deister on either side of the ridge from the Jurassic and the Cretaceous occur here in miniature Deister revealed a mirror image.

The abdachende to the southwest half of the Little Deisters with the Nesselberg is characterized by outcropping sandstones, siltstones and mudstones, some with inclusions of coal. There are the so-called Upper Church layers ( Wealden ) of the Lower Cretaceous.

The abdachende to the northeast half is characterized by outcropping marl stones, shales and limestones. There are the so-called mouths marl of the Upper Jura.

Flora and Fauna

The region enclosed by a wall Saupark Jump takes almost a total little Deister. There are red, fallow, mouflon and roe deer in his next wild boar. In some caves rare bat species can be found. The actual park is an old mixed forest of beech and oak, birch and chestnut avenues. In addition to rock walls, caves, barrows, water sources and wild meadows there are still a number of rare animal and plant species. Since 1954, the Small Deister and the Nesselberg are a total of around 2,500 ha nature reserve, which also houses the Saupark Jump is located.

Attractions

Attractions in and around the little Deister are next to Saupark Jump the bison enclosure, burial mounds, ancient sandstone quarries on the Nesselberg, the remains of the medieval castle Hallermund on the Hallermund head and the remains of early medieval fortified settlement Kukesburg at Old Hagen. In the quarries at Old Hagen I around 400 miners were employed after 1900, which broke the Nesselberg sandstone here.
