Klimkovice

Klimkovice ( German Königsberg in Silesia) is a city in Moravian-Silesian Region ( Moravian- Silesian region ) in the Czech Republic. The city is located south-west of Ostrava.

History

The city was probably founded in the second half of the 13th century by Ottokar II. The 1416 first documented detectable Königsberg was a royal city in the area of the Duchy of Opava.

1578 was the Governor of Andreas Bzenec Markwartowitz rebuild the old festivals Renaissance chateau. 1650 were the Count Wilczek owner of the domain. Until 1918, the town belonged to Austrian Silesia. Königsberg was an artisan town, where the shoemaking and weaving dominated. The corresponding to the political district Wagstadt city was the seat of a district court.

On 1 December 1930, the city of Königsberg had 3240 inhabitants, of whom 229 were German. It was inhabited predominantly Czech before 1945 was the only city of Opava Silesia. The slawischstämmigen residents of the area speak Lechisch.

After the Munich Agreement in 1938 Königsberg was annexed as part of the district Wagstadt the German Reich. On May 17, 1939, the town had 2918 inhabitants. At the end of World War II in combat parts of the city were destroyed.

After the war was the expropriation of Count Wilczek and 1946, the expulsion of the German population. On May 22, 1947, the city had already returned 2710 inhabitants. 2003, Klimkovice 3779 inhabitants. On 1 January 2007 was reclassified from Okres Nový Jičín in the Okres Ostrava -město.

Local structure

The city Klimkovice consists of the districts Hýlov ( Hillau ) Josefovice (Josef village), Klimkovice (Königsberg ) and Václavovice ( Wenzel village) as well as the local documents Fonovice ( Vonsdorf ) and Mexico ( Mexico II).

Attractions

  • Castle Klimkovice 1578 built as a Renaissance instead of the old festivals and 1854 damaged by fire. It now serves as City Council
  • Parish Church of St. Catherine built at the beginning of the 17th century
