Klingspor Type Foundry

Gebr Klingspor was a type foundry in Offenbach am Main, which was led by the businessman Karl Klingspor and his brother Wilhelm Klingspor. They included not only H. Berthold AG, Bauer's foundry and the D. Stempel AG the most important German type foundries of the 20th century.

Business

The company went from taking over the Rudhard'sche by Carl Klingspor foundry produced in 1892. This was founded in 1842 by Philipp Rudhard, Johann Peter Nees and Michael Huck. Klingspors sons Karl and Wilhelm led the foundry, which was renamed in 1904 (other sources 1906) in Gebr Klingspor. The company in 1907 was one of the twelve companies that were involved in the founding of the German Werkbund.

Karl Klingspor left writings by famous artists and designers such as Peter Behrens, Otto Eckmann, Otto Hupp, Rudolf Koch, Gerhard Munthe, Walter Tiemann designing, supplying printers worldwide.

As of 1917, the D. Stempel AG participated in the company. Since 1925 wood fonts and letter cases and racks were out of the lead cast made ​​and set up a Chemigraphische institution. In the same year the lettering artist Wilhelm Klingspor died. In bombing in 1944, the company was destroyed and destroyed numerous templates. Karl Klingspor died in 1950 and his nephew Karl Hermann took over the management of the establishment. The type casting was set in 1956 and partly accepted writings of D. Stempel. Until the 1984 bankruptcy, the company was still working as a Graphic Arts Institute. The subrogated to the company stamp artistic rights to the font styles now are in the Linotype GmbH in Bad Homburg, in 1985 the company took over stamp.

Museum

The library from the estate of Karl Klingspors formed the basis for the establishment of the Klingspor Museum in 1953 in Offenbach am Main.
