Knights Valley AVA

Knights Valley AVA ( recognized since 21 October 1983) is an American Viticultural Area in the U.S. state of California. The area is located in the administrative area of ​​Sonoma County in the vicinity east of the Alexander Valley AVA and Chalk Hill AVA between Jimtown and Calistoga. This appellation is among the first five unspecified wine regions of Sonoma County. The current area under vines spread over approximately 30 layers, which are processed from as many winemakers. Due to its location on the eastern slopes of the Mayacamas Mountains, this area has the warmest climate of all the winegrowing areas of Sonoma County. Further east, the Napa Valley AVA joins.

Climate

The warm daytime temperatures and cool nights favor the cultivation of vines from Bordeaux or the Rhone. Cabernet Sauvignon is the most popular grape variety from Knights Valley. However, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot, and Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Viognier and Syrah thrive.
