Knockdhu distillery

Knockdhu distillery

Knockdhu is a whiskey distillery in Knock, near Huntly Aberdeenshire, Scotland, United Kingdom. The distillery is currently owned by Inverhouse Distillers Ltd..

General

An Cnoc (pronounced annok ) is Gaelic and means something like " a mountain". The unusual thing about this whiskey from the eastern highlands ( on the border of Speyside ) is that he does not bear the name of his distillery, which is a natural tradition for Scottish whiskey distilleries otherwise. Until the early 1990s, however, this was still the case, but since 1993, the Single Malt Knockdhu distillery is bottled under the name An Cnoc, allegedly because of an agreement with the owners of the Knockando distillery in order to prevent confusion with their own malt wanted. Knockdhu turn means about " black mountain ", which is probably derived from the 400- meter high mountain Knockhill, which is not far from the distillery near the village of Knock.

History

The distillery was founded in 1892 by John Morrison. After 1893 in the Hills Knock suitable sources were discovered, Knockdhu went into production in 1894. 1898 were built because of the then whiskey boom additional warehouses. Since 1993, the single malt of Knockdhu is marketed as An Cnoc.
