The Speyside is a region along the river Spey in Scotland. It provides no geographical or political- administrative region dar. Rather, it serves the regional grouping of about 50 currently producing Scotch whiskey distilleries and the differentiation from other distilleries in Scotland. In the Speyside whiskeys produced should have a common characteristic: rather round and fine, not peated little to. The Speyside whiskey regarded as the central region of Scotland, since not only the most prolific and distilleries are located, but also maltings, cooperages, Blender or (independent) bottling plants.

Many of the Speyside distilleries are only a few miles apart; some are in the immediate vicinity as in the places Dufftown ( sometimes called secret whiskey capital known), Elgin or Rothes. Some well-known distilleries of Speyside are Aberlour, Cragganmore, Glenlivet, Glenfiddich, Glen Grant or Macallan. Also, the Malt Whisky Trail is within the Speyside - this is a tourist route that connects eight of the more popular distilleries and a cooperage.
