Rothes

Rothes (Gaelic: Ràthais ) is a town in the Scottish region of Moray. It lies about 60 km east of Inverness and 70 miles north-west of Aberdeen on the north bank of the River Spey. Rothes was founded in 1766 on the site of an older settlement. In 2001 Rothes recorded 1156 inhabitants. South originating from the 13th century ruins of Rothes Castle is located.

Rothes is the major whiskey Speyside. In Rothes are the active whiskey distilleries Speyburn, Glen Grant, Glenrothes and Glen Spey and in 2010 demolished distillery Caperdonich.
