Glen Grant distillery

Glen Grant is the oldest whiskey distillery in Rothes, Morayshire, Scotland, United Kingdom.

History

The distillery was founded in 1840 by brothers John and James Grant. After the death of the two founders took over in 1872 the son of James Grant distillery. In 1898 he replaced the original Floormaltings by Drummaltings and built on the other side of the street Caperdonich the then Glen Grant No. 2 said. The two distilleries were up to the first closure of Glen Grant No. 2 1902 connected by a pipeline. The distillery was expanded in 1973 by four to six, and in 1977 by the new owners Seagram eight stills. From 2001 to the end of 2005 belonged to the distillery Pernod Ricard, after the acquisition of Allied Domecq had the distillery but are sold on competition grounds. The new owner is now the Campari Group.

Production

The water belonging to the Speyside distillery dates back to the Caperdonich well and the Glen Grant Burn. The distillery has a mash tun ( mash do ) (12 t) of stainless steel fermentation tanks and ten (wash backs) ( per 19,916 liters ) of pine. Is distilled into four wash stills ( per 22,730 liters) and four spirit stills ( per 11,547 liters ). The original stills are heated with coal and retrofitted with steam.
