Knox (musician)

Knox ( born September 4, 1945 in London when Ian Milroy Carnochan ) is a British musician, songwriter, singer and founding member of punk band The Vibrators.

Life

Knox grew up in Cricklewood, North London and Watford. There he played in school bands guitar and gave it to temporarily, when he attended the Art Academy in Watford and devoted himself to painting. In 1974, he again began to make music and founded in February 1976 with The Vibrators one of the first punk bands.

1978 The Vibrators was characterized by constant line-up changes and dissolution tendencies, during which Knox got out and the end of the year, launched his solo career. Between 1980 and 1983 he released two singles and one studio album. As early as 1982 there was a reunion of the original band The Vibrators with Knox as a singer and guitarist. Since Knox was always with the band on some extensive European and U.S. tours. In 2010, she still came to 130 appearances before Knox again in 2011 split from The Vibrators.

In 1983, Knox along with singer Charlie Harper and bassist Alvin Gibbs (both from UK Subs ) and drummer Matthew Best (later of Psychic TV), the band Urban Dogs, which brought out the eponymous album, among others. By 1986, Knox was next to his involvement in other bands with Urban Dogs actively engaged. The project then rested, but was reactivated in the 1990s, he and Harper repeatedly for occasional gigs and recordings.

1984 Knox formed and some former members of Hanoi Rocks with Fallen Angels another band, with whom he released three albums over the next four years.

1991 Knox worked as a guest musician in the production of Learning English Lesson One with, a studio album by the German rock band Die Toten Hosen in collaboration with artists whose pieces were replayed on the album.

Besides music, Knox works as an artist as a painter and writer. His painting is characterized by both classical and contemporary artists. As examples he specifies, among others, Salvador Dali and Andy Warhol. Knox portrayed numerous punk musicians, such as Joe Strummer, Joey Ramone or Sid Vicious. As a writer he is mainly active in addition to his work as a songwriter and lyricist of several bands and musicians as a science fiction author. As sources of inspiration for his work in this area he calls the works of Ray Bradbury, Larry Niven, Isaac Asimov and Stephen King.
