Knut Agathon Wallenberg

Knut Agathon Wallenberg ( born May 19, 1853 in Stockholm, † June 1, 1938 ) was a Swedish banker and politician; He was also a Knight of the Royal Seraphinenordens. As the son of the banker and politician André Oscar Wallenberg and his wife Catharina Wilhelmina Andersson belonged to the famous Knut Wallenberg family.

In 1878 he married Alice Nickelsen. From 1907 to 1919 Wallenberg was a member of the first chamber of the Swedish Parliament. From 1914 to 1917 he was Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs.

Knut Wallenberg was chairman of the Stockholms Enskilda Bank (now SEB).

He founded the town Saltsjöbaden and the S- Bahn train connections to Stockholm.

Science Foundation

Together with his wife he laid in 1917 with 20 million crowns the basis for the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation (Swedish Knut och Alice Wallenberg Stiftelse ). In 2008, the Foundation's assets totaled more than U.S. $ 5 billion. It is the largest private research funding in Sweden.
