Ko Phi Phi Lee

Ko Phi Phi Leh ( Thai: เกาะ พี พี เล, different spelling: Ko Phi Phi Lee) is an island of Ko Phi Phi island group ( Mu Ko Phi Phi - หมู่ เกาะ พี พี ) in the Andaman Sea. It belongs to the southern Thai province of Krabi.

Geography

Ko Phi Phi Leh is 6.6 square kilometers, the second largest island of the group, the largest of which is Ko Phi Phi Don (28 km ²). The island consists of steep limestone cliffs, a shallow bay, the Maya Bay surrounded. Around the island the sea is only about 20 m deep.

Maya Bay ( Thai: อ่าว มา ห ยา, also Mahya Bay) is popular with divers and became even more famous than the movie The Beach was filmed there in 2000.

In the north- east of the island, the Wai King Cave is ( Thai: ถ้ำ ไว กิ้ ง also: Viking Cave), were collected in the earlier Swallow nests. King Bhumibol Adulyadej gave her the name " Phaya Nak Cave " ( ถ้ำ พญานาค ) because a rock formation resembling a Naga head, worship the locals. There are historical wall paintings of elephants and various ships on the eastern and the southern walls of the cave.

The island then and now

Development was avoided on the island prior to 2004. Although she has since 1983 part of the Noppharat Thara - Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park (อุทยานแห่งชาติหาดนพรัตน์ธารา-หมู่เกาะพีพ) is some construction projects were created here. Currently, there are plans to build bungalows and since 2004 of tourists charged 200 baht to enter the island.
