History

Site

On the site of the station was originally the fort Rübenach jump. After softening 1920, the city of Koblenz had to create at this point a sports court, although the area was still the one claimed by the French army of occupation and the other not even belong to her. It was only on January 1, 1934, the city could eventually take over the property without charge after years of tough negotiations.

The Oberpostdirektion Koblenz in 1932 the construction of a by- sender requested in order to ensure the supply of Greater Koblenz. Before deciding on the location of the new station had already been built in 1933 experiment stations on the neighboring former Bubenheimer Flesche, on the kart home and on the upper Ehrenbreitstein. The aim of this procedure was to control the radio quality at the selected locations in order to make a final decision as to the best possible place the transmitter can. Favorite at the time was still the Bubenheimer Flesche. Ultimately, the decision was made for the adjacent Rübenach jump, where instead of the sports field there arose the transmitting tower.

Medium-wave transmitter

The transmitter Koblenz used by its official opening on April 13, 1935 to 1965 as antenna tower a 107 meter high wooden tower, which was built between October 2, 1934, and November 15, 1934. This tower was originally one of the two towers of the transmitter Muehlacker, which was dismantled in 1934 as part of the rebuilding of the antenna system. From the air raids in World War II, the mast was spared, while the studios were destroyed. After the war was the transmission mode, now under the name Radio Koblenz, be resumed on 14 October 1945 on 31 March 1946, took the southwest radio transmitter.

1965 had the wooden tower to be demolished, because the city of Koblenz had the lease for the land on which this building was terminated. As a replacement, a 52 -meter-high, insulated against earth itself radiating steel truss mast was erected in the immediate vicinity. On August 15, 1974, the station Koblenz ceased its operation. Today, the telecommunications office II Deutsche Telekom is at the site of the former station Koblenz. Apart from numerous pictures today still remembers the street name on the transmitter to the 1974 building demolished.
