Kōbō Abe

Abe Kobo (Japanese安 部 公房; born March 7, 1924 in Tokyo, † 22 January 1993 in Tokyo ), civil Abe Kimifusa with the same Japanese style, was a Japanese writer.

Life

Abe was born in Tokyo, but grew up in Mukden ( Manchuria ), where his father worked as a doctor. In 1941, he returned to Tokyo and studied medicine from 1943. In 1947 he published his first poems in Rilke manner. Followed later essays, novels, socio-critical writings and dramas. He showed interest in Edgar Allan Poe, Dostoevsky, Friedrich Nietzsche, Martin Heidegger, Karl Jaspers and Franz Kafka. 1948 married his wife Machi (真知, † September 28, 1993 ), passed his final exam, but never practiced medicine. In the same year his first novel ( The sign at the end of the road).

Kobo 1949 joined the Communist Party in which he remained until 1962 a member. Two years later, in 1951 Kōbō was " The Crime of Mr. S. Karuma " award for the Akutagawa Prize. He found connection to prominent writers groups. On a trip to Europe in 1956 he visited Germany and France.

In 1962, his international breakthrough with the novel The Woman in the Dunes, which was filmed in 1964. The novels The Face of the Other and the burnt city map were adapted for the screen. The screenplays for the films wrote Abe Kobo itself

Like his role models Hanada Kiyoteru and Ishikawa June he gives an allegorical representation of psychological processes in preference to merely realistic environment description. He described trained on Kafka and Sartre, in his novels, among other humans in mass society. Manfred Osten writes in his portrait, which was created after a meeting with Abe: " alone was important for him as an author, the fable to secure a high degree of ambivalence, in order to avoid the hasty logic access in this way. Literature was only there fascinating, where they the logic of the dream following, an alternative world creating over the subtle and haughty demands of reason and its determined dynamics. " Recurring topoi of his works are issues such as alienation, isolation, loss of identity, and metamorphosis.

1973 introduced the " Abe Kobo Studio " his play " The man who was to stick " on. Abe traveled in a row with this troupe 1979, the United States.
