Koei

Koei (Japanese株式会社 コーエー, Kabushiki - gaisha kOe) is a Japanese manufacturer of video games. Koei is known for its historical simulation games, based on the novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

The company was also able to achieve commercial success with a series of related historical action games such as Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors.

History

Koei was founded in June 1978 by Yoichi Erikawa and his wife Keiko. The seat of the company is since then Yokohama. The company focused initially on personal computers and business software. In 1983 Nobunaga's Ambition published, a strategy game against the background of the Sengoku era. The game has received several awards and Koei subsequently published several other historic games, including Romance of the Three Kingdoms, which plays during the three kingdoms period.

1988, a branch was established in North America, Koei Corporation, based in California. The subsidiary developed until 1995 own games, then this was limited to the translation of the Games of the parent company.

2001 was a branch in Canada, Koei Canada Inc and 2003 a branch in Europe, Koei Limited was founded.
