Koenigsbruck Abbey

The monastery Koenigsbruck ( Koenigsbrueck ) was a Cistercian abbey in the Holy Forest ( Forêt d' Haguenau ) to Haguenau. It was up to the Sauer in the vicinity of Gasthof Au Vieux Couvent. The nearest town is people 's home.

History

The Convent was founded in 1140 against ( according to other sources until 1152 ) by the Duke Frederick the One-eyed. It was one of the richest monasteries in Alsace. It enjoyed duty-free access for a Rhine ship. In the peasant wars it was sacked in 1525 and again in 1621. From 1621 to 1673, the nuns kept on in Haguenau. During the reconstruction in the 18th century Peter Thumb erected the monastery church. During the French Revolution the monastery came to an end. The nuns then moved to the monastery light valley in Baden -Baden.

Buildings and plant

From the broken down to a mill monastery just a few foundations remain. Several altars have fallen into the Church of Roeschwoog. In Haguenau, erected in 1748 Hôtel de Koenigsbruck with ironwork obtained ( Grand -Rue 142, inventoried as a monument historique since 1930).
