Koerich

Koerich ( Luxembourgish Käerch ) is a municipality in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, in the canton chapels.

Composition of the community

The municipality comprises the towns of:

  • Goeblange
  • Goetzingen
  • Koerich
  • Windhof

It belongs to the following community organizations: HIS, SES, SICA, SICEC, SIDERO, SIDOR, SYVICOL, ZARO.

History

In the vicinity of Goeblange Celtic tombs and a Roman villa were discovered. Numerous finds from this era, the near Goeblange were found in " Hiemerbôsch " and " Miecher " are exhibited in the State Museum. For the first time Koerich was mentioned in 979 in a document.

The Fockeschlass once lay in Koerich at the intersection of Rue de Windhof and Rue de Fockeschlass. It is now completely gone, but still figured on the first cadastral plan, which was created by Joseph Johann von Ferraris 1771.

The ruins of the Castle of the Counts ( Gréiweschlass or Grevenschlass ), however, still perched in the middle of town and give an idea of ​​the remaining residues, the former greatness. It already existed before the 12th century and remodeled in the 14th and 16th centuries. Today in the public domain, it was declared a National Monument in 1938.
