Kōichi Mashimo

Koichi Mashimo (真 下 耕 一, Koichi Mashimo, born June 21, 1952 in Tokyo, Japan), often referred to as Kouchi Mashimo Kouichi Mashimo, or, is a well known Japanese anime director and founder of the animation studio Bee Train.

Career

In his early years, he showed a strong interest in photography, which is partly due to the influence of his father. He studied law at Sophia University and worked during his fourth year of study in production of some commercials with. Although it does not satisfy him, he took on November 6, 1975, a job as assistant director at Tatsunoko Production. There he worked from 1975 - 1976 at its first anime Time Bokan series.

The mid-1980s he was killed in a skiing accident and came during his stay in the intensive care unit on the idea of creating a " hospital for Animators ". This should be an animation studio whose primary goal should not be the commercial profit, but the self-fulfillment of talented artists. Some time later he founded the small, independent studio Mashimo Jimusho, which mainly created cutscenes for larger productions. In 1997, Mashimo presented his " studio -as- hospital" concept before Mitsuhisa Ishikawa, president of Production IG, who was so impressed that he promised his support of this project immediately. This new branch was then known as Bee Train and ended in February 2006, his relations with IG as an independent animation studio.

In many of his productions, he worked with Yuki Kajiura, which served as composer for the musical accompaniment.
