Kokino

Kokino ( Macedonian: Кокино ) is a megalithic observatory, which was only discovered in 2001 by archeologist Jovica Stankovski on the territory of the municipality Staro Nagoričane about 30 km east of the town of Kumanovo in the north east of Macedonia. The name stems from the nearest village Kokino, near which some ceramics of a prehistoric settlement were discovered.

Description

The " Observatory " consists of seven of the people living there about 3800 years ago carved in stone markers, so-called thrones. The highest of them is located on the mountain Taticev came in 1013 meters altitude. With their help, the extreme positions of the sun and moon during the year could be observed and the time of the summer solstice to be determined.
