The Köln International School of Design ( KISD ) is an agency of the University of Applied Sciences Cologne and offers interdisciplinary, project-oriented study programs in the design area.

History

With the establishment of the college in 1971 this mitkonstituierenden Cologne factory schools that existed since 1926, "Art and Design" incorporated as a department. In 1991, the course was abandoned free art and design degree program transferred to the so-called " Cologne model ", which was mainly characterized by a project-oriented teaching and the abolition of traditional semester structure. The diploma course first time involved teaching areas such as service design, design management, gender and design or ecology and design. Since 2008 diploma courses run out at the Fachhochschule Köln. Enrollments are made only for the Bachelor's and Master's programs.

In 2002, the organization of the courses was abandoned in departments of the University of Applied Sciences in Cologne. The programs of the Institute have since started with those of the Institute for Restoration to the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. Simultaneously, the change to the Cologne International School of Design ( KISD ) has been implemented.

KISD is part of the University of Applied Sciences Cologne, the largest state-owned University of Applied Sciences in Germany. The magazine " Business Week " has the KISD among the best schools in the world twice already ..

Integrated Design

Since the winter semester 2008, the 8 -semester Bachelor program and the two -semester Master's program » Integrated Design « at KISD exist. Due to the special structure modularization, students learn a non-linear, semester comprehensive, transdiziplinäres and project- oriented studies, in which the independent design ability is paramount.

Bedes / MEDes

Since 1999, the KISD offers - in European Bachelor / Master program " European Studies in Design " ( Bede / MEDes ), a collaboration of seven European universities. As part of a five -year program, students spend two years at two of the participating in the program European partner universities.

Special

Nearly a quarter of students at KISD come from abroad. Projects, seminars and courses, and lectures are offered almost exclusively in English. As part of the study program " Integrated Design ", a massive international module is compulsory.

KISD maintains partnerships with international and regional companies, institutions and associations. Many research and development projects are carried out in close collaboration with industry.

Apply

The application deadline for the BA » Integrated Design « is always the 1 April each year. Application deadline for MA » Integrated Design « is February 1 of each year. The program starts once a year in the winter semester.

Awards

2012 received the University of Applied Sciences in Lisbon the first time awarded International Jury Award competition reload my pharmacy L' Oréal Cosmetique Active.Unter the direction of Wolfgang Laubersheimer and Christina Moritz designed eight students the pharmacy of the future.

As part of a Germany -wide university competition in the winter semester 2011/2012, the Fraunhofer IAO determined together with the project partners Langmatz GmbH into two categories Innovative ( Design ) solutions for sustainable charging stations for electric vehicles, here KISD won with "We Charge" under the direction of Jenz Großhans and Judith Dörrenbächer the 1st place in the category " future concepts"
