Kolping Arena

The Kolping Arena, officially referred to 2008 as Schluefweg, is a recreational and sports complex in Kloten in the canton of Zurich in Switzerland. The Hockey Stadium contained therein is the home of NLA clubs Kloten Flyers.

History

After its foundation in 1934 trained and played the EHC Kloten on the local Nägelimoos pond. Since the frozen winter waters often tended to break and that's why some games had to be canceled, in 1952 south of Kloten, then still in the forest, an ice rink with natural ice conditioning. The Hockey Club moved in the same year there. At that time the plant was still called Forest Stadium.

In 1977, renewed and reinforced to the old grandstand, which was also covered. 1982 was followed by the dressing rooms, a restaurant, as well as the North Stand and underground parking. Outside the stadium, a second open ice was applied. In 1997, finally, the last major renovation of the stadium. The grandstand was around the ice completely closed and the roof replaced by a steel structure. The Schluefweg belonged at that time to the most modern stadiums in Switzerland. The stadium holds 7624 spectators, including 2300 and 5324 standing room seats. The stadium also hockey matches will be played.

From 1997 to 2004, the Zurich Open were (then Swisscom Challenge ) performed in women's tennis in Schluefweg.

In August 2008, the insurance company health insurance Kolping AG acquired the naming rights to the Hockey Stadium of the sports complex for seven years. In the same year, the stadium was again changed a bit due to the Ice Hockey World Championship in Switzerland, such as a video cube was built.

From 2015, the floorball Super Final takes place in the arena. Therefore, the Swiss champion will be crowned only in a game.
