Konrad Jörgens

Konrad Jörgensmann ( born December 3, 1926 in Krefeld, † 28 April 1974) was a German mathematician. He made important contributions in the context of mathematical physics, in particular for the foundations of quantum mechanics and the theory of partial differential equations and integral operators.

Life

He studied at the Technical University of Karlsruhe (1949 /51) and the University of Göttingen (1951 /54), where he received his Ph.D. under Franz Rellich about Harmonic maps and differential equations 1954. After that, he was 1954-1958 assistant at the Max Planck Institute for Physics and Astrophysics in Göttingen with an interim (1956 /57) Visiting researcher at New York University and in 1958 at the Institute of Applied Mathematics in Heidelberg, where he is in July 1959 habilitation. In June 1961 he was appointed to the newly created professorship of applied mathematics and practical at the same institute. In 1966, he was scheduled professor of applied mathematics at Heidelberg.
