Konrad Krzyżanowski

Konrad Krzyżanowski (* February 15, 1872 in Kremenchug, † May 25, 1922 in Warsaw) was a Polish painter of early expressionism.

He began his studies in Kiev at the painting school of Nikolai Muraschko and continued it at the Saint Petersburg Russian Academy of Arts, where he came under the influence of Archip Ivanovich Kuindzhi. In 1897 he went to Munich to study at the art school of Simon Hollosy.

In 1900 he came to Warsaw, where he founded a private art school together with Kazimierz Stabrowski. 1904-1909 he taught at the Warsaw School of Fine Arts. He then spent four years in Paris and London.

After the outbreak of the First World War, he spent three years in Podolia and Volhynia with their relatives. 1917-1918 he taught at the Polish School of Fine Arts in Kiev.

After the war he returned to Warsaw, where he reactivated his painting school. One of his pupils was Edward Kokoszko.
