Konrad Ruhland

Konrad Ruhland Xavier ( born February 19, 1932 in Landau an der Isar, † March 14, 2010 in Deggendorf ) was a German historian of music, music teacher, conductor and music publisher.

Life

His first contact with music was Ruhland as a chorister in the cathedral of Passau. He studied musicology with Thrasybulus Georgiades and Theodor Gollner. Other courses in history, theology and church history formed the backdrop for his musicological research.

Under his leadership in 1956 took place in Munich nine enthusiastic students who formed the " Capella Antiqua", one of the first groups, which dealt with the Renaissance music and the music of the early Baroque in the study. Over time, the ensemble grew to 19 musicians, and made numerous recordings.

Between 1968 and 1991 worked Ruhland at the musical and Modern Languages ​​St. -Gotthard -Gymnasium where he lives Niederaltaich. There, he created together with his wife Elisabeth ( music teacher from 1968 to 1995 ) the quality of musical education and related to the school's reputation decisively.
