Kontagora

Kontagora is a town in the Nigerian state of Niger and is located in northwestern Nigeria. According to an estimate from 2007, it has 102 888 inhabitants.

The various small chiefdoms, in which the area of Kontagora was originally divided - Aguarra, Dakka - Karri, Dukawa and Ngaski - were conquered 1858-1864 by the Fulani and combined into an emirate, which was of the Sultanate of Sokoto dependent. 1901, the emirate fell under British rule and was incorporated into the Protectorate of Northern Nigeria.

Kontagora and its surroundings are one of the 25 Local Government Areas ( LGA) of the state of Niger with an area of ​​2080.57 km ². In the previous 1991 census, the LGA had 138 080 inhabitants, which has a population density of 66 inhabitants per km ². In the city itself 63 994 inhabitants were counted.
