Kopet-Dag

P1

The Kopet -Dag fdep1 Mountains (also Koppe Dag, Koppeh Dagh, Köpet Dag Turkmen Köpetdag, Persian کپهداغ Kope - Dāgh, Russian Копетдаг ) is a mountain range on the border between Turkmenistan and Iran. It is located in the northeast of Iran and extends 645 km south-east from the Caspian Sea to the Hari Rud. The highest peak of the mountain is 3191 meters high Kuh-e Qutschān in Iran.

The mountains are geologically young, which is also reflected in the frequent earthquakes. Thus, lying to the north of the mountain Turkmen capital Ashgabat was almost completely destroyed during the earthquake in 1948. On a 809 meter high hilltop of the Kopet -Dag mountain range is the television tower Turkmenistan.
