Korea Baseball Organization

The Korea Baseball Organization ( KBO ) is the professional baseball association and organizer of the professional league of the Republic of Korea. The league was founded in 1982 with six teams; Today it consists of new teams.

The season begins in late March and ends in October with the playoffs and the Korean Series. Most teams include chaebol, the large industrial conglomerates, and enter their names.

Current composition

Game Mode

In the regular season, each of the 9 teams completed 128 games (16 against every competitor ), for a total of 576 games.

Then in October, followed by the playoffs, which begin with a best-of -five series between the Third and Fourth. The winner then plays out a best- of-seven duel against second placed the regular season. The winner qualifies for the Korean Series ( Hanguk Series) against the First League, in which in a maximum of seven games - will be decided at the end of October, the Championship - plus any draw.

All-Star Game

In mid-July each year hosts the All- Star Game of the KBO, where the best players in the league face each other as " East" and " West". The "East" team consists of players from team SK, Samsung, Doosan and Lotte, the "West" team recruited from the cadres of Kia, Hanwha, LG and Woori. History

The opening match was held between the Samsung Lions and the MBC Blue Dragons in the Dongdaemun Stadium in Seoul on 27 March 1982. President Chun threw out the first pitch.

The founding teams were:

  • The Lotte Giants of Busan,
  • The MBC Blue Dragons (MBC Cheongryong ) from Seoul,
  • The OB Bears from Daejeon and
  • The Sammi Superstars from Incheon.

1985 from the Sammi Superstars Cheongbo Pintos. A year later, in 1986, attracted the OB Bears from Daejeon to Seoul and shared henceforth the Jamsil Baseball Stadium with MBC Cheongryong. In the 1990s, there were only minor changes to the league structure, as some teams changed hands: In 1993, the Eagles Binggrae the Hanwha Eagles, 1995 from the Dolphins Taepyeongyang the Hyundai Unicorns and the OB Bears in 1999 to the Doosan Bears.
