The Kosciuszko Road is a tourist road in the southeast of the Australian state of New South Wales. It connects the Alpine Way and the Barry Way, Jindabyne with the winter Charlotte Pass.

Course

The road leaves Jindabyne north and leads first on the western shore of Lake Jindabyne along. She then turns west and enters the Kosciuszko National Park. After about 20 km to the north branches an access road to the ski resorts of Iceland and Guthega Bend, right on the Snowy River, while the Kosciuszko Road turns to the southwest and reaches the place Smiggin Holes. A little further, the road through the winter resort Perisher Valley and ends in the small settlement of Charlotte Pass under the same passport.

By 1982, the Kosciuszko Road from there was passable yet another 9 km to the summit of Mount Kosciuszko. Today, this stretch is blocked on environmental grounds for all motor vehicles.

Importance and road conditions

The Kosciuszko Road is the only access to the most famous winter sports areas of Australia. In winter, however, is usually covered with snow. The last 7 km from Perisher to Charlotte Pass are locked, so the place Charlotte Pass can only be achieved with special off-road buses and snowmobiles.

In the summer months the street mediates access to the ski trails to Mount Kosciuszko and other mountains of the main ridge of the Snowy Mountains. The for motor vehicles locked, last stretch is one of the ascent routes to the country's highest mountain.
