Kosztowy [ kɔʃtɔvɨ ] ( German Kostov; older Kosztow ) is a district of the independent city Mysłowice in Silesia, Poland. The previously independent municipality situated 4 km south of the center of Mysłowice, near the neighboring town Imielin and was incorporated in the course of municipal reform in 1975 along with Wesoła and Dziećkowice.

History

Kosztow was first mentioned in the 14th century and belonged to the Duchy Ratibor. 1391 gave Duke John II of Opava - Ratibor the separated by vast forests from the rest of the territory of his duchy Ratibor places Kostov, Imielin and Great Chelm to the Bishop of Krakow. Since the bishops arrogated to themselves the sovereignty, Kostov was to 1742, no part of Silesia. 1772 was handed over to Prussia, in 1796 belonged to the newly established Office Kostov Imielin. 1807, the village became part of the Principality of Siewierz of the French marshal Jean Lannes and came back in 1817 to Prussia.

The Upper Silesian village Kostov had 1885 718 inhabitants and 1,538 in 1900. Kostov belonged from 1818 to 1922 the county Pless and was Polish. Between 1939 and 1945 the town belonged in turn to the German Reich.

Transmission tower

Near Kosztowy is since 1976 a 355 meter high radio mast for FM and TV. This transmission tower is named after the collapse of the Warsaw radio mast transmission in Konstantynów the second- tallest structure in Poland.
