Jerzy Chromik

Jerzy Chromik ( born June 15, 1931 in Kosztowy, † October 20, 1987 in Katowice ) was a Polish athlete and world record holder.

Chromik was a professional mining engineer and mechanic.

The long-distance runner was in the late 1950s as one of the world's best hurdler over the long distance. Chromik became European Champion in 1958 in Stockholm.

He participated in the Olympic Games in 1956 in Melbourne and 1960 in Rome, remained there but to no avail. In the years 1955-1958 Chromik improved three times the world record for the 3,000 m steeplechase distance ( 8:41.2 Brno August 31, 1955, 8:40.2 Budapest 11 September 1955 8:32.0 Warsaw August 2, 1958 )

He Jerzy Chromik Memorial will honor since 1989 in Mysłowice place every year.
