Kotobuki Shiriagari

Shiriagari Kotobuki (Japaneseしりあがり 寿, Shiriagari Kotobuki; * January 1, 1958 in Shizuoka, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan) is the stage name of Toshiki Mochizuki (望月 寿 城, Mochizuki, Toshiki ), a Japanese manga artist.

After study graphic design at the Tama Art University in Tokyo Toshiki Mochizuki worked from 1981 to 1994 the advertising department of Kirin Brewery. Already at this time he drew in his free time and was able to publish in 1985 as Kotobuki Shiriagari his first anthology Ereki na Haru at Hakusensha. Among his most famous works include Jiji Oyaji 2000, for which he was awarded the 2000 Bungei - Bunshū Manga Award, and Yajikita in Deep, for which he received the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize - received 2001. Osamu Tezuka had Shiragaris praised during his lifetime drawing style. Yajikita in Deep tells, based on Jippensha Ikkus Tōkaidōchū Hizakurige from the 19th century, from the journey of a gay, drug-addicted couple to Ise.

Kotobuki Shiriagari stands next to the manga series, which are published for example in alternative manga magazines such as AX and Comic Beam, daily strips for newspapers, columns and manufactures installations for at art galleries.

His style is characterized by a deliberate awkwardness, the drawings appear partially scribbled or muddy. In some works, these drawings are combined with elements of ink painting. On the comic festival in Angoulême Kotobuki Shiriagari was introduced in 2006 with a retrospective European audiences.

He is married to manga artist Hibari Nishiki.
