The Evangelical Kreuzgymnasium (also known by his Latin name scholastic crucis ) is the oldest existing school in Dresden and one of the oldest in Germany. For the first time in 1300, a schoolmaster ( rector Cunradus puerorum ) was mentioned. It was founded as a grammar school for the singers of the cappella sanctae crucis ( Cross Church ), today's Dresden Kreuz Choir.

Today the Cross School is a Protestant high school, whereas the Dresden Kreuz Choir is with his Alumnat supported by the city of Dresden. All members of the Dresden Kreuz Choir ( Kruzianer ) from the 5th class pupils of Cross High School. In addition, however non- Kruzianer attend school.

History

The history of the Cross School is closely linked to the Church of the Cross. Your predecessor was the 1215 dedicated to " St. Nikolai Church. " During this period of the Middle Ages education was given a new significance. Schools were often connected to city churches because there was a need for a church choir. The church also had a relic with a splinter of the True Cross, and was re-consecrated because of the high importance of the Catholic veneration of the cross in 1388 by the Bishop of Meissen as ecclesia crucis sanctae ( Cross Church ). 1393 the first school building was opened on the south side of the Cross Church. Only in 1866 was a much more spacious new building on George Square. This building was destroyed during the 1945 air raids on Dresden. Since then, the school located in the building of the former Masonic Institute in Eisenacherstraße in Striesen district. From 2007 to 2009 it underwent major restoration work so that the school system temporarily held in Dresden- Prohlis in the former Erich Wustmann High School. The rededication was held by Bishop Jochen Bohl on 10 August 2009.

School Profile

All students learn English from 5th grade. Also can be selected as a second language since the school year 2010/2011 from 5th grade between Latin and French. A third foreign language nor Greek can also be learned. From the 8th grade all students to have a choice between artistic, scientific, linguistic, humanities and social science profile. Members of the Cross choir are in the 5th - 7th Class taught separately to compensate for the double burden of choir and school and instruction losses through samples and tours. As early as the 3rd grade, children can join the Cross Choir and visit as Crucian the Kreuzgymnasium.
