Krishnagiri (Tamil: கிருஷ்ணகிரி Kiruṣṇakiri [ kiɾɯʂɳəɡiɾi ] ) is a city in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is located in the northern inland areas of Tamil Nadu, near the border triangle between the states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. The nearest large town is 90 kilometers north-west of Bangalore. The population is around 71,000 ( 2011 census ). Krishnagiri is the administrative seat of the district of Krishnagiri.

The name Krishnagiri means "mountain of Krishna " and is derived from the mountain Krishna Devaraya Hill, at whose feet lies the city. The name of the mountain refers to the Vijayanagar King Krishnadevaraya ( 1509-29 ), during whose reign the fortress to be erected on the summit of the mountain. Thanks to its natural protective layer resistance the fort during the Mysore Wars twice, in 1767 and 1791, a British attempt to conquer. A few kilometers west of Krishnagiri flows Ponnaiyar River, which is dammed here to Krishnagiri reservoir. Through the city leads the National Highway 7 which connects the longest highway in India with Varanasi Kanyakumari.
