Kristian Elster (born 1881)

Kristian Elster the Younger ( born March 17, 1881 in Trondheim, † November 6, 1947 in Oslo) was a Norwegian writer, literary critic and literary historian.

Life

Elster was the son of the writer Kristian Mandrup Elster, who died a few weeks after his birth. His mother, Sanna Fasting, moved with her three sons first in her hometown Forde and later to Kristiania (Oslo ).

After graduating from high school, which he completed in 1900, Elster studied law and then worked from 1906 as a judicial officer, first in Mandal and then in the Ministry of Agriculture.

After he had in 1905 published a story, in 1907 his first book, a collection of short stories. However, he had his breakthrough in the 1910s with novels, namely Laere with the 1911-1913 published autobiographical trilogy I, Landeveien and Mester, as well as with the 1917 published Min bror Harris.

In 1918 he retired from the civil service in order to devote himself exclusively to literature. From 1919 he also wrote reviews for the newspapers Aftenposten and nations.
