Krupa, Semič

Krupa ( German Krupp), is a small village in the Slovenian region of Carniola, which belongs to the municipality Semič. This place has become notorious by the homonymous river Krupa, which rises in the city and has one of the world's highest burden of PCBs. The picturesque turquoise blue source located right under a limestone cliff. The source and the entire region have been poisoned by kondenzatorji decades, improper disposal of PCBs from a nearby factory Iskra capacitors.

Near the village since the 13th century was probably the Krupa Castle ( German: Schloss Krupp ), which originally was the property of the Croatian noble family Babonić. Mentioned they were first introduced in 1352 ( " the Crup "). These were ancestors of the Earls Ursini - Blagaj. The castle first appears in 1427 as castrum Cruppa documented on. The Krupa castle was burned down in 1942 by the partisans. Today only foundation walls of which are preserved.
