Municipalities of Slovenia

This is a list of cities and towns in Slovenia, by population and sorted alphabetically.

According to Population

By far the largest agglomeration in Slovenia is Ljubljana with a population of 491 407 (as of 1 January 2005). Thus, a quarter of the country's population is concentrated in the capital region.

The following table lists all cities ( sl. mesta, Sg mesto, not to be confused with community sl. Občine, Sg Občina ) with more than 5,000 inhabitants (ie cities in the geographical sense, which does not necessarily have city rights ). The population figures given reflect the results of the Census ( Census ) 1981, 1991 and 2002 ( each 31 March), as well as an estimate of the Statistical Office in Slovenia on 1 January 2005.

The higher-level administrative units in Slovenia are the municipalities. These were summarized by the government for statistical purposes into twelve regions. In the table, the region to which the city is given. The population figures refer to the respective urban area of the municipality, ie excluding the population in the partially expanded rural settlement areas within the community.
