Oplotnica

Oplotnica ( German: Oplotnitz ) is a municipality in the Spodnja Štajerska region in Slovenia.

Location and population

In the overall community consisting of 21 villages and hamlets 3980 people live. The main town Oplotnica alone has 1333 inhabitants. The municipality is located southwest of Maribor on the southeastern slopes of the Pohorje.

History

1182 Oplotnica was first mentioned in writing, when the Duke Otokar the VI. Traungau the former castle Oplotnica donated to the monastery in Žiče. Colonized the area was much earlier, as evidenced by excavations. Until the 3rd millennium BC, the rich finds.
