Municipality of Dolenjske Toplice

Dolenjske Toplice ( German Toeplitz ) is a municipality in Slovenia near Novo Mesto. It is located in the region of Lower Carniola ( Carniola ) on the river Sušica which opens 2 km north in the Krka and has 3,494 inhabitants. The main town Dolenjske Toplice has only 740 inhabitants.

The place is known resort and for its thermal baths, which was founded in 1658 by the Counts of Auersperg. It is one of the oldest spa resorts in Europe. The place was first mentioned in the 13th century.

A small area in the southwest of the community to Kočevske Poljane ( Pöllandl ), the northern part of the valley Moschnitze ( Črmošnjiško - Poljanska ), forms part of the historic region Gottschee. Some people are talking about nor the German dialect Gottschee Risch. In the city the Association of Gottscheers is established, which publishes the journal deutsch-/slowenischsprachige " Bakh - Pot".
